McGee, had developed a prototype for a Virtual Patient program, one that third and fourth year Harvard Medical students could utilize (on CD-ROM) to learn some of the details of patient care that they would not be able to pick up on rounds.
One program participant, Nicole Williams, a 21-year-old Kansas City mother of three, said she was hopeful she'd pass the GED test soon so she could avoid the electronic version.
Meanwhile, Saint Louis University's part-time program launched a micro-scholarship program last year: Students can apply to have the cost of one course remitted by the school so they can stay enrolled.
