For all the chatter about diet and exercise, there is asimple explanation for why Americans and other westerners are gaining weight: Food and calories are extremely cheap--not just at McDonald's but in the grocery store, as well.
Their study suggests that children aged eight who are stunted due to malnutrition were 19% more likely to make mistakes reading asimple sentence like "the sun is hot" or "I like dogs" than those with a balanced diet.
"That risk can be reduced by simple lifestyle changes, such as not smoking, drinking alcohol sensibly, exercising regularly and eating a healthy, balanced diet to reduce the risk of obesity - a major contributory factor increasing the risk of diabetes and eventually cardiac disease, " he added.
