So Aetna decided to let a group of policyholders with a life expectancy of less than a year receive hospice services without forgoing other treatments.
"No one is suggesting that anyone be pushed in any specific direction about the choices they make for end-of-life care, " says Randall Krakauer, Aetna's head of Medicare medical management.
