In July, the FAA said a new airtrafficcontrolcenter serving the busy New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia metropolitan areas would be built somewhere in New York.
"That guy passed us now and that was not good, " the pilot of American Airlines flight 951 told the controllers at New York AirTrafficControlCenter, the country's busiest.
Saturday's failure was caused by a software malfunction, while the error earlier in the month, which caused the system to shut down for 20 minutes, was caused by incorrect input by an adjoining airtrafficcontrolcenter.
