Birmingham City Council set up a shelters at Birmingham SportsCentre at Balsall Heath Road and Kings Heath Community Centre on Heathfield Road for people left temporarily homeless.
With sports events taking place from east London's Olympic Park and Greenwich, through the citycentre, and out to Wimbledon and Wembley, there are restrictions around 10 sports venues in the city.
These include a multi-million pound enhancement to Newport's citycentre, and a year-long festival of arts and sports - both to increase the city's tourist appeal.
Major developments under way include one of Scotland's largest urban regeneration projects at Raploch and Forthside, the new 40-acre citycentre quarter under construction on the waterfront, as well as a new sports village at Forthbank.
