While so far the coati seems to be staying close to the zoo, two previous escapees were found further afield.

The coati is about the same size and shape as a raccoon and is omnivorous - eating leaves, fruit, small rodents, birds and eggs.

The coati is an omnivorous animal and it was likely to be surviving on fruits, berries and leaves as well as mice and small birds.
Zoo manager Mark Challis said the coati was in good health.
"The coati has now had a veterinary inspection, is in good health and is settling back in with the other coatis in the zoo, " he said.

"Coatis are generally timid however if anyone sees the coati they are advised to contact the zoo immediately and not attempt to approach or catch the animal, " the zoo spokesperson added.
