Mr. Baer, who previously worked in the entertainment industry for movie studio Columbia Pictures and media conglomerate CBS in New York, has experienced disappointments such as losing the 2002 World Series after nearly clinching it, and later enduring a widely watched steroids probe involving Mr. Bonds and high points, including winning the 2010 World Series.
