Aside from the issue of same-sex marriage, Archbishop Welby takes the post as the Church wrestles with other controversial issues such as the consecration of women bishops.
The Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams - the spiritual head of the Church - said the divisions arising in the global Anglican Communion following the consecration were "a matter of deep regret".
Archdeacon Henderson voted against the draft measure for the consecration of women Bishops in November because, he says, sufficient measures were not in place to prevent "marginalising" those who were against the move.
