As an alien robot attempting to master the ways of New Yorkers, Murphy is expectably uproarious, but more than half of his screen time is given over to his straight-man role as the captain, who, along with the rest of his crew, undergoes an emotional awakening upon contact with the joyful irrationality of life on earth.
