Arista Networks was showing a 10 Gb Ethernet (GE) switch that significantly lowers the cost of high speed Ethernet connectivity, apparently by a factor of about 4 to 1, at the recent NAB show.
This switch allows category 6 Ethernet cabling to be used for 10 GE transport up to 100 m, less than the 300 m that optical fiber Ethernet connections but enough for many data centers.
Dubbed BRCK, the solution is a rugged wireless router that connects to the internet via Ethernet, WiFi, 3G and 4G, and can switch its source on the fly if a connection dies.
