"It was perceived that Patarkatsishvili was going to fund the opposition, " said Ana Jelenkovic, an analyst with Eurasia Group.

Roubini, like his colleague Ian Bremmer of the Eurasia Group, stressed the concept of a G-Zero world, where no global hegemon can elicit strong support to get policy enacted.

But Riccardo Fabiani, the North Africa analyst of the London-based Eurasia group, said that some of the alarm over the recent attacks has been overblown when taken in a broader regional context.
With such a narrow victory, Maduro has little political capital to make some of the difficult choices some of those problems require, said Risa Grais-Targow, Latin America analyst for the Eurasia Group.
"I think this us a sign of underlying structural issues which you have seen in South Africa for a long time, " said Mark Rosenberg, an Africa analyst with the risk research firm Eurasia Group.
"Stronger growth is absolutely imperative for India because unless the economy is able to create more jobs, we will see the risk of social unrest continue to rise, " said Anjalika Bardalai, an economist with the Eurasia Group.
"Over the course of the past five years, the FARC has been pushed back into Colombia's less densely populated jungle regions and across the Ecuadorian border, " said Patrick Esteruelas, an analyst with the Eurasia Group consulting firm.

"What you're seeing Maliki essentially saying to anyone who wants to listen is that I don't need any of you, " said Crispin Hawes, the director of the Middle East and North Africa program at New York-based Eurasia Group, of the move against the Kurdish ministers.

Ian Bremmer and Nouriel Roubini, respectively president of the Eurasia Group and a professor at New York University, pointed out in The Wall Street Journal last week that 39 of the 42 Chinese companies listed among the Fortune 500 are state-owned, and three-quarters of China's 100 largest publicly traded companies are state-controlled.
