The new tyrannosauroid is considerably smaller than Tyrannosaurus rex but still 40 times the weight of the largest previously known feathered dinosaur discovered in the same region.

Trapped within the first fossil were the remnants of a single Sinornithosaurus - a feathered flying dinosaur, measuring about 1m (3ft 4in).
