Mr. Bloomberg has recommended a ban on the sale of sugary drinks such as soda, sports drinks, sweetened tea or coffee in cups or containers that are more than 16 fluidounces.
According to the proposal, patrons would be able to buy multiple containers, but restaurants and other establishments would not be able to sell sugary drinks in cups or containers that are more than 16 fluidounces.
The industry has opposed the idea of defining serving size by fluidounces of pure alcohol or as 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof liquor on the grounds that you may get more than 1.5 ounces of liquor in a cocktail depending on what else is in the drink and the accuracy of the bartender.
