He also avoids Web-based tools, because "when you open up a browser window, there are 35 tabs there staring at you with stuff you need to get done, fighting for your attention, " he says.
"All you are really doing when you're collecting stuff from space is that you've got to get that information into your brain so you can think about it, " he explained in his podcast.
Because they suck up a lot of resources even when they're not actively running, and that slows down your work--ironically making it harder to finish quickly so you can get to the fun stuff.
