We expect that other big players like Cisco , Toshiba and HP will also enter the tablet market, in addition to existing players Apple iPad, RIM Playbook, Dell and LG.
So, now that the introductions are over, how should RIM focus its PlayBook strategy over the upcoming months?

But RIM is also hoping the PlayBook's features will help it appeal to a broader audience.
This decision shows that RIM is confused with its PlayBook strategy.
Nor is RIM about to drop the PlayBook tablet.

We currently forecast that RIM will sell 4 million PlayBook units in 2011, and will grow sales a little over 2% annually towards 12.5 million by the end of our forecast period.
With the introduction of its tablet, the PlayBook, I believe RIM will continue to make solid gains in the corporate world, and it is doing well as a relative newcomer to the consumer marketplace as well.

And then this past week RIM releases its tablet device called the PlayBook.
The PlayBook discussion reveals how eager both RIM and industry watchers are for big news.
The RIM dudes talked a lot about how the PlayBook is optimized for enterprise customers, and emphasized the features that link the tablet to BlackBerry phones.

Sentiment may not improve until RIM makes bolder moves, such as delivering the PlayBook.
That QNX software powers the PlayBook and will drive future multicore smartphones from RIM, Lazaridis said.
It is also the first product that will debut with a revamped operating system (for now, called PlayBook OS) that will likely power all RIM devices eventually.
The software is, for a first release, uncommonly slick and well thought out, completely unlike the PlayBook disaster of two years ago, when RIM released a tablet computer that couldn't do email.
This will make the PlayBook less appealing to people who are not already RIM customers.
Even the PlayBook, which is built around the QNX software RIM will begin building into its handsets next year, is a flop.
Fast forward to late last week when I attended a meeting in New York with Tim Stevens and RIM CEO Mike Lazaridis to get the latest dish on the PlayBook.

The last we heard, all notions of a 10-inch PlayBook had been shelved, with rumors suggesting that RIM wanted to concentrate on its BB10 plans and next-gen smartphones instead.

The PlayBook, a 7-inch touch-screen tablet RIM will release in the next few months, relies on this multicore concept.
The PlayBook has been roundly criticized for being buggy and incomplete but RIM has repeatedly expressed confidence that its longtime corporate customers will purchase the device.
