The Water Taxi Beach, a bar with real sand and volleyball courts, serves up drinks and snacks, as well as spectacular views over to Ellis Island and Manhattan.
Woodland, a Manhattan Project scientist, came up with the idea for bar codes while running his fingers through the sand, trying to figure out how to put a unique code on every item of merchandise that could be easily scanned by a mechanical device.
Bar: fully or partially submerged mound of sand, gravel or other unconsolidated material built on the sea-bottom in shallow water by waves and currents.
But the notion that somehow we have succeeded as a consequence of the recent reductions in violence means that we have set the bar so low it's buried in the sand at this point.
Currently in its soft launch phase, the wooden-decked dance area on the sand is cordoned off from the regular beach, while the zebra print low slung sofas and armchairs in the bar are comfortable and elegant.
