The postponement came the day that GTM Research and the Solar Energy Industries Association released a report finding that solar installations in the U.S. hit a record 684 megawatts in the third quarter.
Cutting the DOE program would "kill all clean energy projects with pending DOE loan guarantee applications, causing the loss of tens of thousands of jobs and many other benefits, " the Solar Energy Industries Association said in a statement.
"We want to take the lessons learned from electronics and semiconductor industries (about pollution) and get ahead of some of these problems, " said John Smirnow, vice president for trade and competitiveness at the nearly 500-member Solar Energy Industries Association.
The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) has made a particularly concerted push, sponsoring a solar festival at Coors Stadium in Denver during the Democratic National Convention, and constantly reminding lawmakers of the popularity of solar power among the American public.
The report released by GTM Research and the Solar Energy Industries Association, a trade group, noted the growth between the first and second quarters of this year was particularly impressive given that there was a rush to install solar panels on residential and commercial rooftops by the first quarter as developers feared a key federal incentive would soon expire.
