The fourth annual vintage-flavored on and off-road rally is scheduled to begin on Saturday, April 27 with a pre-event technicalinspection, vehicle display and driver's meeting all taking place at the historic bullring in Mexicali, Baja, Mexico.
"An initial visual assessment this morning indicated that no telescopes appear to have received major damage, but the impact of the fire on the instruments will not be known until a technicalinspection of the telescopes can be done when the site is safe, " it said.
Clearly, the Votkinsk experience has shown the shortfalls of the current standard, and of the practice of working out "technical details" regarding such inspections after the treaties are signed (as was done with the Votkinsk inspection arrangements).
