Also in the group of donated works is a stylized royal portrait from the late 16th century, "Commemorative Head of an Oba, " which shows the ruler's head chin-deep in a collar made from coral beads and capped with a crown made from braided strings and other beads.
Resemblances between his work and that of Rodin, Dali and others are, he says, coincidental although the black fedora apparently plastinated to his head is a nod towards the anatomist's hat in a famous portrait by Rembrandt.
"George Nassau, Third Earl Cowper" (1772-3) is another of the artist's masterpieces a bold formal portrait of a standing figure holding his hat above his head in a gesture that might be awkward, but somehow isn't.
