During the first day of the programme, participants will meet in Venice at the UNESCO Regional Office where they will be introduced to the World Heritage (WH) and MAB BiosphereReserve (BR) designation schemes.
The main aims of this tour are to strengthen Sustainable Development and Governance in the Tara River Basin BiosphereReserve and in the Durmitor World Heritage site in Montenegro and to reinforce the management capacity of the UNESCO designated sites.
In a partnership with the Mountain Research Initiative (MRI) based in Berne (Switzerland), the International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP), and the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP), UNESCO is selecting biospherereserve sites from each of the major mountainous regions of the world as the focus for this new global climate change monitoring programme.
