中草药饲料添加剂，顾名思义是以中草药为原料制成的饲料添加剂，虽然有些学者将其归入非营养性饲料添加剂，按国家审批和管理也归入药物类饲料添加剂，然而，由于中药既是药物又是天然产物，含有多种有效成分，基本具有饲料添加剂的所有作用，可作为独立的一类饲料添加剂，毛皮动物在野生 状态下是自由采食中药药物的。我国应用中药作为饲料添加剂具有悠久的历史，早在两千多年前就开始用来促进动物生长，增重和防治疾病。
