机械构件在混凝土基础上安装时，将这种螺栓的呈J形、L形的一端埋入混凝土中使用。 地脚螺栓一般用Q235钢，即为光圆的。螺纹钢（Q345）强度大，做螺母的丝扣没有光圆的容易。对于光圆地脚螺栓而言，埋深一般为其直径的25倍，然后做一个120mm左右长的90度弯钩。 如果螺栓直径很大（如45mm）埋深太深的话，可以在螺栓端部焊方板，即做一个大头就可以了（不过也是有一定要求的）。埋深和弯钩都是为了保证螺栓与基础的摩擦力，不至于使螺栓发生拔出破坏。
