拒付通知是汇票遭到拒付时，持票人应在拒付后一个营业日内，将拒付事实通知前手背书人，前手应于接到通知后一个营业日内，再通知他的前手背书人，直到通知出票人。按到拒付通知的每个背书人都有向其前手进行追索的权利。如持票人或背书人未在规定时间内将拒付通知送达前手背书人或出票人，则该持票人或背书人即对应按受通知的前手丧失追索权，但正当持票人的追索权不因遗漏通知而受到损害。持票人也可以将拒付事实通知所有前手，这样，每个前手即无须继续向前手通知。日内瓦 “统一汇票本票法” 和 “中国票据法” 规定，未按照规定期限通知的，持票人仍可行使追索权。但因延期通知给前手或出票人造成损失的，后手应承担该损失的赔偿责任。
