旋毛虫幼虫寄生于肌纤维内，一般形成囊包，囊包呈柠檬状，内含一条略弯曲似螺旋状的幼虫。囊膜由二层结缔组织构成。外层甚薄，具有大量结缔组织；内层透明玻璃样，无细胞。 袋形动物门(Aschelminthes)线虫纲(Nematoda)寄生蠕虫，学名为Trichinella spiralis。世界性分布。长1.5～4公釐(0.06～0.2吋)。引起人和其他哺乳动物(猪、犬、猫、熊、狐、鼠)的严重疾病——旋毛虫病(trichinosis)。在宿主小肠内交配，然後雌虫钻入肠壁内产出幼虫，幼虫被血流带到身体各部。在肌肉内生长，约经16天成熟，囊包於幼虫周围形成。含有囊包的肌肉被合适的宿主吞食後，幼虫进一步发育，在宿主肠内成熟并进行生殖。旋毛虫成虫寄生在小肠，称肠旋毛虫；幼虫寄生在横纹肌内，称肌旋毛虫。
