我们一般所说的框架合同是指合同双方当事人就合同标的交易达成意向并对主要内容予以确定而订立的合同，具体的交易细节在框架合同的基础上再细化成正式的合同。当很多小的重复交易建立了长期合同，就需要一个特殊的合同机制涵盖这种关系和单个交易的需求。这被称为框架协议（framework agreement）：合同在一定时期内，为每笔单个交易作为一个框架进行运作。
