浸润线是渗透水流表面与土坝横断面的交线。其以下土体处于饱和状态,颗粒重量为有效重量,同时受渗流水的渗透力作用,故坝体内浸润线位置的高低及形状对坝体的应力、土料的抗剪强度、坝坡稳定及土料的渗透稳定性影响较大。其位置的确定是土坝渗流分析及稳定分析的重要内容,如何有效地降低浸润线的位置也是实际工程中的研究课题。
