疲劳破坏是指在远低于材料强度极限甚至屈服极限的交变应力作用下，材料发生破坏的现象。 材料在循环应力和应变作用下，在一处或几处逐渐产生局部永久性累积损伤，经一定循环次数产生裂纹或突然发生完全断裂的过程。根据循环荷载的幅值和频率，疲劳可以分为等幅疲劳、变幅疲劳和随机疲劳;根据材料破坏前所经历的循环次数(即寿命)以及疲劳荷载的应力水平，疲劳又可以分为高周疲劳、低周疲劳和亚临界疲劳。
