shellac varnish 又称虫胶清漆。俗名泡立水（polish)或淡金水。一种醇溶清漆。 由紫胶片（俗名洋干漆）溶解在乙醇中而成的棕色半透明液体。涂刷后迅速干燥，留下一层紫胶的薄膜，具有优良的硬度和电绝缘性，并可经抛光打磨而显出光亮的色泽。但膜质较脆，耐热性和耐气候性也较差。 主要用于涂刷木器和电器绝缘材料，不宜外用。
开始加热，酚和甲醛(需有酸或碱促使其反应进行)便产生了像紫胶样的液体，能像清漆一样涂于物体表面。
