酚醛树脂是酚类与醛类在催化剂作用下形成树脂的统称。它是工业化最早(1910年，德国Bakelite)的合成高分子材料。在近一个世纪的时间里，被用于诸多产业领域，仍是重要的合成高分子材料。在木材加工领域中酚醛树脂是使用广泛的主要胶种之一，其用量仅次于脲醛树脂。尤其是在生产耐水、耐候性木制品方面酚醛树脂具有特殊的意义。酚醛树脂胶粘剂具有耐热性好、粘接强度高、耐老化性能好及电绝缘性优良，且价廉易用等特点，因此得到了较为广泛的应用。
