abstract:Eve-teasing is a euphemism used in India (and sometimes NepalSmriti Lakhey, "Eve Teasing", Wave # 55, July 2000. and Bhutan) for public sexual harassment or molestation of women by men, with use of the word "Eve" being a reference to the biblical Eve, the first woman.
Around the same time in Punjab, another northern state, an officer who was protecting his daughter against sexual harassment -- locally referred to as "Eve teasing" -- was shot dead in public view, allegedly by a local political party member who was troubling her.
