And it appears that online journalists will continue to be targeted in China. At an Internet conference on Friday, the head of the State Council Information Office unveiled a top ten list of “worrying trends” online. At the top of the list: “Spreading rumors,” followed by “exaggerating news reports.” Unofficial or unauthorized information is often characterized under one of these two labels by Chinese officialdom. Apparently media issues are a greater cause for concern than online fraud, identity theft or computer viruses, which were all ranked lower on the list.
