Last year Dr. Kumar, head of the health ministry's Central TB Division, publicly criticized Hinduja Hospital and its researchers, saying their findings of "total drug resistance" published in a medical journal would hurt Indian tourism and should have been reported to him first.
First reports said three people had died but the Minister for Health Sussanne Aho Assouma reported after a visit to the disaster victims at Lome's centralhospital that the death toll had risen to four.
Central to the complaints of Lewisham residents and indeed many of the health staff working at the hospital is that they are being penalised because of the problems built up at another trust.
