I paused immediately, I'd never noticed that the floor was musical and I still thought it wasn't. Never had I heard it. If that wasn't it then what was it? I paused listening intently. I could hear breathing behind me. Not the rhythmic breathing of a sleeping person, but that of an alert person, one that wasn't sleeping. I span round and my heart plummeted in my chest, all rational thoughts flying out.
