Members of Congress have no power, indeed they have no rights, to arrogate to themselves the power to nullify an election absent such a compelling threat.
Musharraf placed the country under a six-week state of emergency late last year, during which he ousted most of the Supreme Court justices who had been expected to nullify his recent election victory on constitutional grounds.
Now, it didn't open until eight, which is feeding a lot of suspicion on the ground here, that there have been efforts to rig this election, that there've been efforts to nullify their votes - efforts on the part of the government, which, of course, is headed by the incumbent, President Mwai Kibaki.
