Multiple citizenship, or multiple nationality, is a status in which a person is concurrently regarded as a citizen under the laws of more than one state.
The wrong response to this is political protectionism, with states forcing citizens to choose one nationality only, or hampering their right to multiple passports.
Under international law, countries including the United States that use race, color, ethnicity, religion ornationality as a proxy for criminal suspicion are in violation of international standards against racial discrimination and multiple treaties to which the U.S. is a party.
