abstract:A Royal Research Ship (RRS) is a British-operated merchant ship that conducts research for British Government scientific research organisations, notably the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) and the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). A warrant from the Queen is required before a ship can be designated as an RRS.
