abstract:Siamese Crocodile (Crocodylus siamensis) is a freshwater crocodile native to Indonesia (Borneo and possibly Java), Brunei, East Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, Burma, Thailand, and Vietnam. The species is critically endangered and already extirpated from many regions.
Thanks tohim, the Chinese alligator andthe Orinococrocodile were justbeginning torecover; but the Siamesecrocodileand the “amazing” slim-nosed gharial of India were still right on the edge.
The Siamesecrocodile, which used to pluck picnicking princesses off the riverbank, according to French explorers, has already disappeared from the main river.
However, even with 2010's 13 hatchlings, it will take a long time to see a substantial boost in numbers because each Siamesecrocodile takes at least 15 years to reach sexual maturity.
