The latest, Section 58 oftheCrime and Disorder Act (1998), enables courts to order the compulsory supervision ofsex offenders for up to ten years after release from prison.
The aim was to lampoon the suggestibility of public figures willing to repeat, with feeling, any nonsense they are told, the bogus gravity of much current-affairs television, the hypocritical voyeurism of media coverage ofsex and crime, and a lot else besides.
