The state Department of Environmental Conservation has conducted studies of theMohawkRiver basin since the 2006 flood and has been working on a program involving soil and water conservation districts and the Army Corps of Engineers.
Mathai testified earlier that she slept in a closet, worked long days without vacation, days off or sick time and wasn't allowed to leave the property, a palatial stone mansion on a cliff overlooking theMohawkRiver.
The shootings shattered the peace and rattled the nerves of Mohawk and Herkimer, two small villages about 170 miles northwest of New York City, separated from each other by theMohawkRiver and the New York State Thruway.
