Ms Randerson called on the assembly government to offer training grants for employers to take on unemployed young people or people who have been out of work for more than a year.
Mr Swinney also said help for young people included the offer of education or training to unemployed 16 to 19-year-olds and maintaining college student numbers.
And in light of the reporting by the NY Times, they could try to drum up some goodwill by creating a special section on their sites and offer specialized and extensive training (and high quality career advice) to people who have been unemployedfor longer than a year.
