In an effort to reduce the number of violent criminals in Juarez, the United States has stopped deporting released prisoners of Mexican nationality to the embattled city, according to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Leticia Zamarripa.

The most direct land route would take the pair straight through some of the region's most dangerous areas, including the Iraqi capital Baghdad, into war-torn Syria and straight through theembattledcity of Aleppo to the Turkish border and on to Europe.
