The current standard treatment cures between 66% and 79% of patients with the most common type of hepatitis C, known as genotype 1, and who are undergoing the drug therapy for the first time, according to clinical data cited by the Food and Drug Administration.
"The existence of these structures may be loaded when the cell has a certain genotype or a certain dysfunctional state, " said Prof Shankar Balasubramanian from Cambridge's department of chemistry.
They found that a genotype conferring low levels ofthe enzyme monoamine oxidase A (MAOA), when combined with early child abuse, predisposed the individual to later antisocial behavior.
