动机理论（又名动因理论）是指关于动机的产生、机制、动机与需要、行为和目标关系的理论。动机是心理学中的一个概念，指以一定方式引起并维持人的行为的内部唤醒状态，主要表现为追求某种目标的主观愿望或意向，是人们为追求某种预期目的的自觉意识。动机是由需要产生的，当需要达到一定的强度，并且存在着满足需要的对象时，需要才能够转化为动机。
时至今日，心理学界对动机理论（theory of motivation）已有一套成熟的见解。人类对于自己瞄准的目标，能够持续奋斗多久，全有赖于外在内在的两种驱动力。
