废物回收是把人类活动过程中产生的废弃物进行处理和再次利用的收集过程。可根据废物的性质，或行业性质实行分类回收。如工矿业废物，以废金属为主；生活废物种类则较复杂，有有机物、无机制品、金属制品等。为了提高回收和处理废物的效率和效益，城市生活废物也应开展分类回收。可在城市街道设立装载纸张类、金属类、玻璃类、塑料制品类和无机杂品类的专门容器，为充分处理和利用废弃物提供条件。
