聚丙烯酰胺凝胶指的是由丙烯酰胺单体，以次甲基双丙烯酰胺为交联剂，经四甲基乙二胺催化、通过游离基引发(光引发、化学引发等) 聚合而成的交联聚丙烯酰胺。它是一种化学合成的人工凝胶，其商品名为生物凝胶P (Bio-Gel P)。它不同规格的生物凝胶用数字和符号表明，如Bio-Gel P-4 等，数字表示凝胶排阻极限的1/1000,即排阻极限是4000 Da。
