菠萝莓别称白草莓，是智鲁岛（智利）生长的一种草莓与北美洲弗吉尼亚州生长的一种草莓杂交后形成的。为蔷薇科草莓属多年生草本植物，外形酷似草莓，果肉呈白色，外面覆盖着红色斑点，与草莓的基因构成相同，因其味道与菠萝出奇的相似故称菠萝莓，具有极高的食用价值和栽培价值。
