Istanbul (CNN) -- Despite repeated police efforts to disperse them, thousands held a sit-in for a third consecutive night in the city's main commercialdistrict to protest a government-backed shopping center project.
Marijn Nieuwenhuis, from the University of Warwick's Department of Politics and International Studies, and contributing author to the book "Shanghai New Towns, " explained that the city's boom began in the early 1990s with the construction of the Pudong commercialdistrict.
