Present the World Heritage Committee with a detailed report on the state of conservation of World Heritage sites in Mali, notably Timbuktu and the Tomb of Askia during its next meeting.
Conservation and protection of World Heritage Sites located in Pakistan are of utmost priority and despite the negligible budget allocation for its biannual regular programme, UNESCO Islamabad has succeeded in creating a general awareness regarding the universal significance of these sites through advocacy, networking and generating extra-budgetary resources.
Preservation and conservation of cultural heritage is another major concern as major World Heritage sites such as Mohenjodaro stand in the path of the floodwaters descending through the Indus River Valley.
During the session, World Heritage Committee members will examine the state of conservation of 169 properties including the 34 sites inscribed on the List of World Heritage in Danger because of serious threats to their outstanding universal value.
The Committee will also review the state of conservation of 147 World Heritage properties, including the 31 sites inscribed on the List of World Heritage in Danger and another 36 that are causing serious concern.
The World Heritage Committee also examines reports on the state of conservation of inscribed sites and asks States Parties to take appropriate conservation and preservation measures when necessary.
The main points on the meeting agenda were the examination of the state of conservation of the five sites and putting into place corrective measures recommended by the World Heritage Committee.
We are particularly encouraged by the emphasis on the conservation and preservation of the Outstanding Universal Value of each site as a means of protecting and sustaining World Heritage Sites in England.
