In the wake of the latest arrest, the bustling "Crossroads of the World" was filled Tuesday with performers, including multiple versions of Mickey and MinnieMouse, Hello Kitty, a Transformer robot, Lady Liberty, Super Mario and Elmo.
Standout pieces include a series of faux pre-Columbian clay sculptures featuring Mickey and MinnieMouse and other Disney characters by Nadin Ospina and a time-lapse video by Juan Manuel Echavarria documenting the decay of a fine porcelain plate into a pile of white powder that looks suspiciously like cocaine.
Made of unbleached muslin that's been printed with obnoxious imagery (for instance: MickeyMouse and Minnie in flagrante) and using Russian Constructivist colors of red and black they are sewn inside-out, with exposed seam allowances unfinished and fraying.
