The aim of the bill is to grant Scottish ministers the necessary powers to construct a new road bridge over the Firth of Forth, adjacent to the existing Forth Road Bridge, along with new and upgraded connecting roads.

It will provide a new north to south route with a bridge over the River Tone, near Goodland Gardens, linking Wellington Road to Bridge Street.
Other work includes new flood walls and embankments in the city centre and the level of some sections of road at North Bridge has also been slightly raised.
The new road will follow a route from the Fullarton Road Junction near Carmyle to the M8 just west of the Kingston Bridge.
